If you’re like most people at the beginning of a New Year, your probably making New Year’s resolutions this week or have already made them. But I am here to tell you. Don’t, just don’t and I’ll tell you why shortly. Besides the fact that over 50% of people’s resolutions don’t last beyond the end of January. New years resolutions can just be very overwhelming and stressful.

I gave up making New Year’s Resolutions in my 30’s when I realized just the thought of it would give me so much anxiety I wouldn’t make it past the first few days of January. So, yes, I was definitely added to that percentage of people. Now it wasn’t the act of setting aside time for myself and looking ahead to the New Year with passion and excitement and fervor.

No, it was the stress that came with the thought of failing. Yes, my fear of failure was so much bigger in my 20’s and 30s that I gave up making a list and checking it twice and even attempting to stick to it, now for the record, my resolutions then consisted of things such as, drink more water, go to the gym more, give more, do more for others etc… but the closer I got to my 40’s I decided to focus more on being, instead of doing.

The older I get the more I really embrace just being, being more present, being more loving, being more of who I am naturally. Now, I’m not saying making New Year’s Resolutions is wrong or a waste of time, do what suits you, but do something for your future self that doesn’t create stress. I welcome this for you. Making a to~ do list, done list or even a creative list as I’m calling it this year, can also work wonders. So, when your planning your wedding, your vow renewal or any party planning event, don’t resolve to lose 5 pounds just for the wedding or go on that strict diet for 2 days or even give up your favorite drink, you know you’ll miss it. Enjoy your life, your life partner and those around you and just… Be.
