WHO PAYS FOR WHAT?

Let me add a disclaimer: Age does not equate to income and only you and your partner know your financial situation no matter your age, background or any other factor. Happy planning! Who pays for what I think one of the biggest tasks early on after the engagement or even before especially if you and your partner have discussed getting married is who is going to pay for what? Now a lot of times there are a few factors that come into place when deciding on who pays for what so such as age in your financial situation can play a major role in who is paying for what. So Say you and your partner are getting married later in life over the age of 45 to 50 you’ve both established dominance in your careers you might or might not have older children you are most likely more financially stable you may have even had a business or two. In that case it would make sense that since you’re older more mentally mature more financially stable you and your partner will pay for a 100% of the wedding costs.

But let’s say you and your partner are in your twenties or thirty’s and have a modest income, modest being whatever modest means to you. But you want a big wedding and have parents, a parent or grandparents willing and wanting to pay for it or a portion of it.Even in these situations there should be an understanding, plenty of communication and boundaries between the payee and the payor. Anything less then and you may be looking at chaos. If the young bride and groom are able to contribute to their wedding, dividing up the cost may look something like this. The family member pays for the more expensive things such as the location of the ceremony and reception. The couple pays for the officiant and wedding favors. Or maybe the couple pays for the ceremony and reception location and the family member or members chip in and pay for the couple wedding day attire. Either way, make sure to discuss in detail the specifics of who’s going to pay for what, or may be a good idea to even get it in writing.

What coming together looks like

Now it doesn’t matter if your younger or older, are able to afford a 500 guest invite or your family wants to gift you with covering your 10 guest invite list. The important thing to do is have open communication and several conversations in regards to who pays for what. That way everyone is on the same page from the start and your entire wedding planning and day of goes off with a bang. Happy planning ❤️
