Your wedding day is one of your most cherished and significant days, and no matter how hard we try to make it perfect, things will happen. Such is life. Wedding day mishaps are a testament to the unpredictability of life and the joy that comes from embracing imperfections. I list a few of the most common mishaps below and how to take it all in stride.
The Rainy Surprise:
You’ve planned every detail of your big day down to the napkin ring holders, so of course you’ve checked the weather four times a day now and it has looked great! You feel relieved and began to relax, then it happens the morning of your big day it starts to rain uh oh, this is especially concerning if your nuptials are outside. Don’t fret grab an umbrella and consider it a cleansing from above.
The Cake Catastrophe:
The cake is often the centerpiece of the reception after the bride’s wedding dress of course, so even if your cake is actually a donut tower or dessert bar things can go weary, as you get ready to cut the cake it begins to topple over or your donut tower crashes to the floor. There’s a gasp in the reception hall from guess, but you take it in stride and say with a laugh “cake is ready!” everyone laughs and relaxes. It’s okay things happen and you still have options. If your dinner is catered the caterers will take care of a backup option, so grab a drink head to the dance floor and party on.
Forgotten Vows:
You and your soon to be spouse decided to write your vows, you’ve been practicing for weeks you’ve written it out and rewritten it several times. The night before you finally have the perfect vows written on paper. Now it’s your big day and you’re standing in front of your officiant who says “the couple will now recite their vows” and then you realize you have both forgotten them, you didn’t memorize it and neither your maid of honor or best man have that little piece of paper you wrote them on. Relax take a deep breath and speak from the heart after all you’re person and all of their great qualities are the reason you’re marrying them.
The DJ’s Oops Moment:
“DJ won’t you play that funky love song” Thanks Jamie Foxx for that famous line, for your first dance as a couple you get to the dance floor, all eyes are on you, the photographer is ready to start snapping and your guests are waiting patiently. Then the DJ plays the wrong song!! Well you could just stall, approach the DJ, say a few nasty words and then wait until he finds your song. Or, and I highly suggest this one, just start dancing, because as long as you have each other in that moment what else matters.
The Flower Girl and Ring Bearer:
Your flower girl and ring bear are the cutest little persons you’ve seen in a long time. During your rehearsal they nailed their job duties, however on your big day, in front of all your guests, they freeze. They flat out refuse to walk down the aisle, start crying, decide they don’t want to throw flowers or hold the ring pillow or flat out make a beeline for their parents, its causing a stir, usually the parents of the flower girl and ring bearer will go to their rescue and take over their job duties. Just know that these little adorable kids will make one of the highlights of your ceremony, just rest assured that all is well and this will probably be one of the best memories of your ceremony.
